‘Dörferblick’ hiking loop
Hiking in the large nature conservation project Obere Ahr-Hocheifel The chapel of Kirmutscheid is idyllically located and overlooks the starting point of the 14-kilometre panoramic trail around Pomster and Barweiler. Accompanied by the rippling Trierbach stream, the route takes you through the little hamlet of a few houses called Kirmutscheid into a coppice of oaks and hornbeams. Surrounded by nature’s tranquillity, the hiker walks along a gently sloping forest path up to the wooden panoramic viewing platform just outside Pomster. The magnificent panorama affords hikers wonderful views of the varied Eifel landscape with its striking Aremberg mountain (623 m), 12 little picturesque villages and the once so mighty Nürburg castle ruin on the Mons Nore, the black mountain (678 m). There is also a recliner bench where you can take a little rest. The hiking loop then continues through the village of Pomster. This tranquil village has a small historic chapel and charming rubblestone and timbered houses. You then walk through meadow valleys and mixed forest, past ant colonies to the dreamy valley flat of the Wenigbach stream. Hikers will be captivated once again by the natural tranquillity of the landscape and then continue through open meadows, fields and hedge landscapes, then past the Roßbach stream on a gentle ascent to Barweiler. Here, the pilgrimage church St. Gertrud is worth a visit before the trail along a pretty avenue and through some more varied Eifel landscape affords a magnificent view of the chapel in Kirmutscheid before you are back where you started. The routes: Kirmutscheid–Pomster = 4.6 km Pomster–Barweiler = 5.7 km Barweiler–Kirmutscheid = 3.7km |
