Historisches Stadtviertel Buttermarkt

Historic district Buttermarkt

This little district accommodates amongst other things the oldest house in Adenau and several old timbered houses from the 17th century. This is also where you can find the town gallery and a Kulturcafé venue. Special landmarks include the bronze statue with the ‘Buttermark wife’ and the Buttermarkt chapel.

Adenau Kirche

Historic town centre

In addition to examples of old timbered houses, this is also where you will find Adenau’s oldest house dating from the year 1630. There is also the commandery, the Catholic parish church St. Johannes d. T. and some good shopping to be found on the historic market square with its idyllic fountain, inviting you to spend time and relax.

 Kreuzweg Adenau

Crossroad Adenau

The neo-gothic crossroad is within walking distance to the market square. Its location and the different types of local rock it is made from means that it can truly be described as unique.

Nürburg

Nürburg castle

Nürburg is famous not only for the nearby legendary racetrack. The castle ruin is a remnant of a castle complex, the oldest part of which originates in the 12th century. The castle keep was built in 1818 and more restoration and building works followed, which means that you still get a good impression of what the former complex looked like today.

Turm Hohe Acht

Emperor William tower

The tower was erected on the mountain Hohe Acht, at an altitude of 747 metres. The magnificent views across the landscape of the Eifel region provide plenty of compensation for the tortuous ascent. The starting point is a parking site for hikers by the L 10.
The Emperor William tower is closed for safety to the public until the completion of the renovation work by the Landkeis Ahrweiler

Aladin

Open-air stage Schuld

Each weekend for six weeks every summer, the idyllic open-air stage in the woods presents performances by the theatre ensemble Schuld. There is also a little chapel near the open-air stage where pilgrims gather every year in May.

Teufelsley

Teufelsley

Four kilometres from Dümpelfeld you can find Europe’s largest continuous quartzite block, which is easily accessible by car. Its peak affords magnificent panoramic views of the mountains of the Eifel region.

Schlossruine Arenberg

Arenberg castle ruin

There is a beautiful hiking area all around Arenberg castle. The tower can still be viewed from the outside from the grounds of the former castle. The castle is said to have been erected in the 12th century and was destroyed by the French in 1683. A friends’ association looks after the upkeep of the tower and the entire grounds.
